16weeks

I'm now 16 weeks (and honestly this is when I started this blog). I was really hoping that after my first trimester, I'd stop feeling sick, start glowing, and have a pregnant-lady appetite. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Between 12-16 weeks, I actually felt worse than parts of my first trimester. I am still on the zofran, suffering extreme exhaustion that feels flu-like, and had horrible headaches. I'm still not eating enough calories and I'm down 2 more pounds (12 total). I also had a horrible cold this week which didn't help.
I'm still (patiently) waiting to feel good and not feel sick anymore. I'd also love to enjoy food again- it feels like it's been forever.

Dave and I decided to try to go on more date nights since they will be few and far between once the babelet comes. We went to a nice dinner at Laurelhurst Market on Saturday night. We had to wait an hour and a half for a table (we got there at 630) and joked that with a babysitter a wait like that would cost us. It was amazing, I know why they consistently are rated one of the best restaurants in Portland.

During a girls' brunch this morning, I learned that one of my really good friends is 12w pregnant! I am so excited to be pregnant with her, we're going to have so much fun with our babies. Now that's 3 of us. Lisa is due in mid-Feb, I'm due in April, and Caitlin is due May 5th. I'm so happy I'll still have friends and not be alienated as the only mom in our couples group. Now there will be lots of moms!

Adios first trimester!

I was thrilled to be finished with my first trimester. I suffered a lot of nausea, was on a bunch of medications and generally felt like crap. I was down 10 lbs but my doctor wasn't concerned and assured me I would start eating (and gaining) soon.
It was so nice to see the babelet on the ultrasound kicking away like crazy and running around in there.
After the 12w scan, we told work, gave our parents permission to tell anyone they wanted, and told our families back east. Everyone was thrilled for us.
We bought a home doppler off the internet and started looking for the baby around 10 weeks. We finally found the hb right around 12 weeks. It's nice to be able to listen for about 15 seconds every night to hear the babelet playing around in there.

And Babelet makes 3!

In early August 2011, I found out I was pregnant with our first baby! We were thrilled to find out the news and tell our families. The Babelet is due April 7, 2012 which also happens to be my mom's birthday!
I waited a week to tell my parents because they would be coming to visit and I thought it would be fun to tell them in person... so the ideas of how to tell them started churning.

We ended up filling the backseat of our car with pink and blue balloons and driving to the airport. We had the balloons tied to the door handles so when they opened the doors the balloons came out.
My parents' flight was delayed and they ended up landing after midnight from a 6 hour flight. They were exhausted and the time difference didn't help.
My mom saw the balloons when we pulled up and her first thought was "who's having a party?" then she saw they were pink and blue (still before we opened the door or stopped the car) and she started screaming and crying. She was so excited. My dad was confused but then he too was excited.
We told my sister 2 days later when we picked her up in Seattle. When she went to get in the car we had one pink and one blue balloon on her seat. She sarcastically said "hey, there's balloons in my seat" not realizing what was going on. Within seconds she noticed they were pink and blue and she started hyperventilating and couldn't catch her breath. It was so funny, she was so happy and started crying and just kept saying my name over and over again.
Later that day we called my brother and let him in on the family secret.
We tried to get in touch with Dave's parents a bunch of times that week but never could get in touch with them so we waited about another week to let them know.
For our local friends, we started telling around 8w. We waited until our 12w ultrasound to tell families back east, work and others.
