EGGS
No eggs for this kid...Luke was doing great with his eating since we've avoided eggs completely. I've gotten used to scouring labels for the "CONTAINS EGG" disclaimer and he hasn't had anything with eggs in it. The challenging part has been that some products will not have egg whereas other similar brands will (pastas, pizza dough, etc). So it's not as easy as just cutting out an entire food.
But on Thursday night... Luke was Egged. We went out for my best friend's birthday to a popular Italian place. I told the waitress he's allergic to eggs and had her check what had eggs in it. She said she thought the pasta didn't but she would check. So we waited, and she came back and told us the spaghetti doesn't have egg. I believed her because the pastas I buy are egg free- most dried pasta is ok, it's fresh or homemade that has egg.
Luke got his kid's meal of spaghetti and meatsauce and he was excited. He ate about 3 bites then stopped eating and started fussing. We blamed it on bedtime and teething but he knew something we didn't (at the time). He'd been egged. That night, he vomited a few times and woke up crying every few hours in pain. His stomach was gurgling- you could hear it. In the morning, he refused his bottles and breakfast and his cheeks were dry and red. He ate a little bit of lunch to vomit it up soon after.
We were able to get him into the pediatrician and she told us we did what we should- zyrtec, benadryl, inhaler, monitor him closely. She gave him a dose of zofran (anti nausea) so he could eat again. Then we just had to wait for it to leave his system (usually 24 hours).
That night he felt fine and was back to himself. Silly and eating again. His eczema flared up a bit and his breathing is a little off but he'll be ok... as long as he stays far away from eggs.
